About the BBSRC Yorkshire Bioscience Doctoral Training Partnership

The BBSRC Yorkshire Bioscience Doctoral Training Partnership (YBDTP) brings together world-class bioscience research and innovation, as well as excellence in doctoral supervision, across the region.

It is a strong regional partnership, funding postgraduate researchers at Leeds Beckett University, Sheffield Hallam University, Teesside University, the University of Bradford, the University of Huddersfield, the University of Hull, the University of Leeds, the University of Sheffield, and the University of York.

What can you expect as a student on the YBDTP?

You’ll benefit from a regional doctoral training programme that has interdisciplinary collaboration at its core. You will develop a range of research skills in biological, biotechnology and biochemical areas. You will also be equipped you with core data analysis and professional skills that are necessary for bioscience research and related non-academic careers.

Building on previous success

The YBDTP builds on the successful BBSRC White Rose Doctoral Training Partnership in Mechanistic Biology, which comprised the Universities of Leeds, Sheffield and York.

We’ve expanded the partnership to include the Universities of Bradford, Huddersfield, Hull, Leeds Beckett, Sheffield Hallam and Teesside to provide doctoral training across Yorkshire and Teesside.

Training the bioscientists of the future

Our mission is to train the bioscience researchers of the future, fully equipped to address and solve fundamental and strategic biological questions of national and global importance.

We achieve this by offering cutting-edge research projects in bioscience and biotechnology, complemented by an interdisciplinary training programme and placements.

For standard projects this will be a Professional Internship for PhD Students (PIPS) and for CASE Students this will be a placement with the industrial partner.
